In this season, I found it easier to surrender the things I needed to let go of than to accept them for what they truly were.
Sometimes, you know you have to release something because it is no longer good for you. You recognize that holding on is causing more harm than healing, so you make the decision to surrender it. But what I did not realize was that letting go and accepting the truth are two different things.
I could surrender the situation, but accepting how deeply it hurt me was much harder. Accepting that something I loved was also damaging me. Accepting that I tolerated more than I should have. Accepting that the pain affected me in ways I did not fully recognize while I was living through it.
That has been my struggle.
But in this season, I am learning that acceptance does not mean I agree with what happened. It does not mean it was right, and it does not erase the pain. Acceptance simply means I am no longer fighting the truth of what it was.
I am finally giving myself permission to acknowledge the hurt, grieve what I lost, and allow God to heal the places I once tried to ignore.
Embracing acceptance has been hard—but little by little, it is getting easier. And with every truth I accept, I feel myself becoming freer.
Sometimes surrender removes the thing from your hands, but acceptance removes its power from your heart.
